Our Story & Farm Life

A family-run farm shaped by history, nature, and simplicity.

A Family Legacy

Windhoek Farm was purchased in 1958 by Louis Cornelius Vermaak for his son, Petrus Jacobus Vermaak, beginning a family legacy that has been passed down through generations. At the time, Petrus was only 18 years old and unable to register the property in his own name. When he turned 21, ownership was transferred to him. The farm was later inherited by his son, also named Petrus Jacobus Vermaak.

From Humble Beginnings

When the farm was purchased, it consisted of only a small house and a worker’s dwelling with a simple shelter that served as a milking shed. The land was largely undeveloped, with little to no infrastructure. To support daily operations, earthen pipes were laid over a mile to bring water to the house and dairy facilities, laying the foundation for what would become a successful dairy farm.

Windhoek Today

Over time, dairy operations came to an end, and the farm evolved into the peaceful guest farm it is today. Nestled at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains, approximately 23 km from Riversdale, Windhoek Guest Farm offers a tranquil countryside escape surrounded by natural beauty.

Ideally located between Swellendam and Mossel Bay along the scenic Garden Route, and just 58 km from Stilbaai, the farm provides a peaceful setting where guests can relax, reconnect with nature, and experience the slower pace of farm life.

Life on the Farm

Today, guests can enjoy comfortable self-catering accommodation and a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, swimming, and birdwatching. Throughout the year, the changing seasons bring new beauty to the landscape, from lush fynbos to the vibrant wildflowers that bloom during the winter months.

It is a joy for us to share this natural beauty, rich history, and sense of calm with every guest who visits.
